Nevada is rich in the solar, geothermal, and wind resources that have now become a cost-effective and reliable way to meet more and more of our energy needs, while reducing fossil fuel air pollution and protecting our precious water resources from overuse and contamination.
Coal-burning power plants such as NV Energy’s Reid Gardner plant near Moapa - which contaminate air and groundwater, harm public health, increase health care costs, drain precious water supplies, and require costly pollution controls - should now be phased out in a transition to clean energy sources.
Members of the Nevada Clean Energy Campaign are working together to:
- Safeguard the health of Nevada residents today - and the environment and resources we will leave for future generations - by supporting careful stewardship of our air, land, and water under protections such as the federal Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, as well as other local and state protections.
- Expedite a transition in Nevada from coal-burning power plants, such as Reid Gardner, to the abundant, affordable renewable energy sources and energy efficiency that will drive the job creation and energy economy of our future.
